Sunday Rides
Every Sunday morning from Countess Wear — routes posted in advance, no one left behind, coffee stop guaranteed.
What to expect
Sunday is the big one. We meet at Countess Wear Beefeater at 8:30am sharp — coffee beforehand if you need it — and we’re rolling by 8:45. Routes are posted to Facebook and the website at least 48 hours ahead, so you always know what you’re signing up for.
Distances typically run from 35 to 65 miles, with regular coffee stops built in. We keep the group together on climbs and regroup at the tops. Nobody gets left behind.
Route areas
We ride all over Devon. Dartmoor features heavily — Haytor, Widecombe, Postbridge, the Two Bridges loop. We also head to the coast: Sidmouth, Budleigh, Dawlish. And deeper into mid-Devon when we want something quieter: Crediton, Witheridge, the Culm Valley.
Every route is shared in advance with a rough GPX or Komoot/Strava link so you can load it onto your device before you leave home.
The no-drop rule
BG&E is a no-drop club. That means we ride together and finish together. If you’re struggling, say so — we’ll adjust pace or split the group. No one will make you feel bad for finding it hard.
That said, we do ride at pace. Most Sunday rides average 14–17 mph on rolling Devon terrain. If you’re new, come out and see — it’s usually more manageable than it sounds.
The coffee stop
Every Sunday ride has a coffee stop. We’ve been known to spend longer at the café than on the bike. Force Cancer Charity fundraising sometimes happens here too.
